If you are planning a family holiday and wondering how to keep your little bundles of energy entertained, you are in the right place.

In this article I will show you what to do with kids in Gandia.

Go to the Beach

Going to Gandia Beach

Playa Norte in Gandia is, without a doubt, the area’s main attraction. Its features make it perfect for families with children:

  • Sand that is perfect for building castles worthy of royalty or digging the deepest hole imaginable.

  • Calm, shallow waters where even younger children can feel confident.

  • So much space that you can organise all kinds of beach games without feeling crowded.

Best of all, it has held the Blue Flag for more than 30 years in a row. That is like the beach getting top marks every single year.

Here are my ideas for things to do with kids on the beach…

  • Sandcastle contests: Who can build the tallest one before a playful wave takes it away?

  • Seaside treasure hunt: See who finds the prettiest shell or the strangest stone.

  • Beach picnics: Nothing tastes better than a sandwich by the sea, preferably without sand in it.

Beach Attractions

The Famous Pirate Ship

Have you ever dreamed of being a pirate? On the seafront promenade there is a pirate ship that would impress even the most demanding young adventurer.

With slides and climbing ropes, it is the perfect place for your little buccaneers to burn off energy.

The best time to visit is in the afternoon, when the sun is not as strong and the sea breeze cools you down while you watch your children conquer the seven seas, or at least this ship.

Trampolines and Mini Golf

Along the beach, you will find trampolines where children can feel as if they are jumping on the moon, plus mini-golf courses where they can discover their inner champion.

Sports Activities

Gandia Beach is not just for lying in the sun, although that is also great. Here, sport is so much fun that you almost forget you are exercising:

  • Improvised volleyball or beach-football matches: there are nets and goals every few metres. Organise your own family beach tournament.

  • Surf school: because who has not dreamed of becoming a cool surfer at least once? The instructors are patient and friendly.

  • Sailing lessons at the Yacht Club: a chance to feel like real sailors for a day.

Remember: after so much sport, an ice cream is almost mandatory. For hydration, obviously.

Wheels and Nature Adventures

Bike Rides

The seafront promenade has a bike lane long enough for a proper family ride. Rent bikes for everyone and take the obligatory family selfie on wheels.

Marjal de Gandia

Are your children fans of nature documentaries? In the Marjal de Gandia they can feel like real explorers:

  • Walks on foot or by bicycle.

  • Birdwatching, including mallards and herons.

  • Learning about local flora, including poplars, lime trees and willows.

Walk Around the Grao de Gandia

In the Grao, there is almost always some temporary attraction. Take the opportunity to:

  • Walk through its lively streets.

  • Visit the Church of San Nicolas and tell the kids the story of the saint who inspired Santa Claus.

  • Try a local treat in its shops and restaurants.

A Touch of Culture, but Make It Fun

Gandia is not just beach; it also has tons of history. And I promise it is more entertaining than a school lesson:

  • Ducal Palace of the Borgia: tell the kids about the intrigues of this famous family.

  • Museu Faller: discover the art of the Fallas.

  • Casa de la Marquesa: with a garden so beautiful it feels taken from a storybook. If there is a concert, even better.

For Adventurous Kids

If your children have an Indiana Jones spirit, do not miss:

  • Bayren Castle

  • Parpallo Cave: travel back to prehistory without needing a time machine.

Aquopolis Cullera

Just 25 minutes away by car, the perfect time for a short nap, you will find:

  • Crazy Cobra: a ride that will make you shout with excitement.

  • Areas for younger children, because little ones also deserve a VIP splash.

  • So many attractions that you will need a map to avoid getting lost.

Aqualandia in Benidorm

A little farther away, about one hour, but worth every kilometre:

  • So big that you could spend a week there without repeating the same attraction.

  • Relax areas for parents who prefer to “supervise” from a lounger.

Alternative Plans for Rainy Days or a Change of Pace

  • Ice-cream route along the seafront promenade: organise a contest for the strangest, tastiest or funniest flavour.

  • Shopping afternoon in the Grao: because taking home one souvenir, or ten, is part of holiday law.

  • Look for summer events: concerts, street theatre, workshops for children… Gandia never sleeps in summer.

Tips for Surviving and Enjoying the Holiday

  • Sunscreen is your best friend. Apply it with dedication and in generous amounts.

  • Water, water and more water. We are 60% water, and at the beach that feels even more true.

  • Listen to the lifeguards.

  • The siesta is non-negotiable, for children and adults alike. Your future self will thank you.

  • Always carry the beach survival kit: water, snacks, a spare change of clothes and the toy your child cannot live without.

Kid-Friendly Hotels in Gandia

After a day full of beach adventures and exploring Gandia, nothing beats returning to a place where the whole family feels at home. Did you know that choosing the right hotel can be the finishing touch to your holiday?

Gandia has a few hidden treasures when it comes to family accommodation. Let me tell you about two hotels that will make your children not want to leave, and you either.

Hotel RH Bayren Parc

Hotel RH Bayren Parc for children in Gandia

If you want to visit Gandia with kids, this is a perfect place. If you are travelling without children, it is also a very good option. This is what I would highlight:

  • The beds are comfortable and the hotel food is good. But the best part is the staff, who are very friendly and attentive, and the activities for guests.

  • They organise games for children and adults every day, and there are pools that younger guests can enjoy. There is also a small playground with slides, all visible from the bar terrace.

Villa Luz Design & Art Hotel

Villa Luz Design and Art Hotel playground in Gandia

First things first: the whole hotel is designed for both younger and older guests. This is what I would highlight:

  • The entertainment and entertainers are excellent. There is a mini club with activities throughout the day, both on the beach and at the hotel. There are afternoon games for adults, a video-game area for older children, and pools for both young children and adults, with big, very fun slides and lifeguards.

  • The rooms are very clean and well kept. The beds are very comfortable, as are the pillows.

  • The buffet is very varied. When people think of family hotels and food, many places rely too heavily on fried dishes. Here the variety is well planned, with plenty of vegetables, fish, meats, stews, rice dishes and paella every day, plus show cooking.

  • Staff who go out of their way for you: from reception to the entertainment team, everyone is there to make your stay unforgettable.

  • Need a cot? A high chair? A special menu because your little one only eats dinosaur-shaped pasta? They have it all.

The only thing worse than hearing “Are we there yet?” during the whole trip is hearing “Why are we not staying at that cool hotel?” throughout the holiday.

With so many options, the only problem will be deciding what to do first. So put on your swimsuit, grab the towel and get ready to create memories that will last a lifetime with the kids.
